Fiumicino, 20 February 2019 – Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport has been authorised by ENAC, in turn authorised by the ASL, to reopen following the confirmation of fully normal air quality ascertained by yesterday’s CNR surveys, after the outbreak of a fire involving bags and cartons in a warehouse managed by an external company. The source of the fire was identified and extinguished in under one minute at 7.30 am yesterday.
The last 6 flights scheduled to arrive at Rome Fiumicino today will be diverted to Ciampino Airport to guarantee normal operations in the Terminal as of tomorrow morning. These are: Ryanair FR6107 from Charleroi arriving at 22:55; Ryanair FR9636 from Beauvais at 22:55; Ryanair 2693 from Lisbon at 22:55; Ryanair FR 3959 from Bucharest-Otopeni at 22:55; Ryanair FR1635 from Seville arriving at 22:55 and finally, Ryanair FR1299 from Athens at 22:15.

Fiumicino has two passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure clients on national, international and intercontinental routes. Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, by express couriers and for General Aviation operations. In 2018, the ADR airport system registered 48.8 million passengers, with over 230 destinations across the world accessible from Rome thanks to around 100 airlines operating in the two airports. According to Skytrax, in 2017 Fiumicino was the world’s number one airport for improvements and developments to its services. This award adds to the award granted to the airport by the Airports Council International World as the most appreciated airport in Europe amongst hubs with more than 40 million passengers, and to the “Best Airport Award” 2018 given to the Rome airport during the annual assembly of Airports Council International Europe.
