The ADR 4 NextGen social media call is officially underway, a "social" competition aimed at the students of the ISS Paolo Baffi and Leonardo Da Vinci of the Municipality of Fiumicino, who are asked to develop digital ideas for innovative communication on sustainability.
Until 20 November 2021, students who desire to contribute to sustainable development with creativity and a fresh approach are invited to enter the competition, submitting their projects on how to communicate key sustainability issues - such as climate change, the environment, and community well-being to social media audiences. Videos, pills, infographics, podcasts, or other forms of digital narrative that the students consider innovative and effective may be submitted.
"The moment of severe crisis generated by the pandemic has stimulated Aeroporti di Roma to invest more and more in the sustainable and innovative development of our reality: in addition to the objectives we have set ourselves, such as reaching the NetZero target by 2030, and the goals we have achieved, including the recovery of 98% of waste, at the heart of our strategy are the territory and our community, with which we are committed to maintaining a fruitful and constant dialogue," said Veronica Pamio, Vice President External Relations and Sustainability of Aeroporti di Roma. "In this context, giving a voice to the new generations, to make them aware of sustainability issues and to enhance their ideas, is a fundamental objective: for this very reason, we are happy to be able to collaborate with the Fiumicino School Policies Department and local schools on ADR 4 NextGen, a project that we hope will be the first of a long series. ”
A dedicated committee of Aeroporti di Roma will evaluate the works and select the three most innovative, richest, most applicable and most efficient projects from a communication viewpoint: these works will then be presented by the students during the round table "ADR 4 NextGen" on 13 December.
"I would like to thank Aeroporti di Roma for involving our high schools in the project dedicated to sustainability ADR 4 NextGen: talking about sustainability with the new generations is a fundamental example for the integrated and multidisciplinary education of our students," commented Paolo Calicchio, Councillor for School, Sport and Youth Policies of the Municipality of Fiumicino. “The themes addressed in the competition are very important, aimed at empowering young people, making them part of a shared project dedicated to supporting environmental and community awareness initiatives. The innovative language with which the students can participate in the competition is a further motivation: I am sure that our young people can interpret the subject of the competition in the best way and we are now waiting for the works, which result from the creativity and imagination of our students, to take shape. Finally, I applaud the I.I.S. Leonardo Da Vinci and I.I.S. Paolo Baffi, the headmasters and all the teachers for the enthusiasm with which they joined the initiative. ”
ADR 4 NextGen is part of the programme of events of The Careport, Aeroporti di Roma's campaign dedicated to sustainability, and is included in the calendar of All 4 Climate Italy 2021, a programme launched by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
More information on the competition is available on the Aeroporti di Roma website at www.adr.it/4NextGen, where students can register.
Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and carries out other business activities that relate and add to airport management. Fiumicino has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express-couriers and General Aviation activities. In 2019 ADR recorded, as an airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations worldwide reachable from Rome, thanks to approximately 100 airlines operating at the two airports (In 2020, following the effects caused by Covid-19 on air transport, Fiumicino airport recorded just 9.8 million passengers while Ciampino airport ended the year with 1.6 million passengers). In 2020, the Airports Council International Europe awarded the Leonardo da Vinci airport with the “Best Airport Award 2020”. For the third year running, the Leonardo da Vinci confirmed its position as the number one European hub with over 40 million passengers. The award adds to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2020, presented the Leonardo da Vinci with the “Airport Service Quality 2019” award for the third consecutive year as Europe’s most valued airport among hubs with more than 40 million passengers. ADR’s management capacity is also confirmed by the awards received during 2019 from Skytrax, the leading international rating and assessment company for the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017.
