Fiumicino, 17 May 2018 – This afternoon, the Departures Hall in Fiumicino's Terminal 3 played host to the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema’s choir. 100 voices rang out from an unusual airport stage, with two pieces from the renowned soundtrack of the film Gladiator – “Barbarian Horde” and “Now We Are Free” – captivating the international passengers at Leonardo da Vinci. After last year’s massive success – which saw music from the second film in the Harry Potter saga played in the same location – Aeroporti di Roma renewed its partnership with the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema in order to promote the capital city’s cultural and entertainment events, using Fiumicino as an international showcase and entertaining Italian and overseas travellers as they wait for their flight.
Composed by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard, the score from the 5-time Oscar-winning film enthralled passengers departing from Fiumicino Airport – a preview of the show that will make its début at a charity event on 6 June at the Colosseum, and which will return on 8 and 9 June to the Circus Maximus. In the capital’s historic archaeological treasure, 200 musicians will perform the famous soundtrack in time with images, dialogue and special effects from the film, which will be projected in high definition onto a 25-metre big screen in one of the most emblematic places of Rome’s history.
Led by composer/conductor Justin Freer, it will be an immersive experience like never before. Appearing as a Special Guest is singer Lisa Gerrard, the performer of the Golden Globe Award-winning soundtrack. Fiumicino hosted a preview of the shows set to take place in the city of Rome, captivating passengers departing from Terminal 3. Intrigued by the Choir, they gathered round to capture the event with selfies and videos as the film's most exciting scenes rolled across the Hall's maxi screen. The event is just one of the many initiatives organised by the airport management company to entertain travellers which have improved airport experience – as confirmed by the awards given to Fiumicino by Skytrax and ACI Europe for the quality of the services offered.
Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities related and complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates through three passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express couriers and for General Aviation activities. In 2017, ADR recorded, as an airport system, 46.9 million passengers with over 230 destinations worldwide that can be reached from Rome, thanks to around 100 airlines operating at the two airports. According to Skytrax official certification, in 2017 Fiumicino was the world’s number one airport for improvements and developments to its services. This recognition joins the award it was given by Airports Council International as the European airport most appreciated by passengers.
