PRESS RELEASE
PRELIMINARY AGREEMENT REACHED BETWEEN MUNICIPALITY OF GENOA AND ADR FOR THE SALE OF 15% OF SESTRI PONENTE AIRPORT
Genoa, 14 March 2024. The Municipality of Genoa and Aeroporti di Roma reached today a preliminary agreement for the sale to the municipality of the 15% stake in the share capital of Aeroporto di Genova Spa, currently held by ADR.
Due to the strategic nature of the airport for the Municipality of Genoa, considering that a strategy aimed at ensuring the integrated and intermodal growth of the infrastructure is currently being developed by the Aeroporto di Genova Spa and its public shareholders, the municipal administration has considered proposing to Aeroporti di Roma the acquisition of its minority share. This in order to ensure maximum consistency between the implementation actions currently under study and the strategies that the Genoa municipal administration shall pursue in favour of its community and its positioning in the national transport system.
The Board of Directors of Aeroporti di Roma, in consideration of the request received and the underlying reasons, resolved in favour of the proposed sale.
The acquisition of the shares by the municipality effectively represents the first step in the airport's development strategy, which is also closely followed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
Today's agreement therefore allows to start the technical process aimed at defining the terms of the sale and at finalizing the operation, in compliance with current regulations.
“We consider it fundamental that the Municipal Authority of Genoa becomes an active part in the management of the city's airport, which is a strategic infrastructure for the development of tourism, economy and trade on which important considerations are being made for an imminent relaunch” explained the Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci. “We thank ADR for the institutional cooperation shown so far. All share purchase requests will be subject to the necessary administrative procedures and approval by the city council.”
“In response to the the Municipality of Genoa proposal – declared the lawyer Vincenzo Nunziata, President of Aeroporti di Roma - with due attention to the requests of the institutions and to the demands of the Genoese territory, the Board of Directors that I chair has today decided to proceed with the operation of sale of our minority shareholding in the company that manages Genoa Airport. This operation goes in the direction that the public shareholders of the airport and President Lavarello are pursuing with competence and entrepreneurial vision, and to which we are happy to be able to make a contribution".
