TASTE OF SUMMER – ALL THE TASTE OF SUMMER AT LEONARDO DA VINCI AIRPORT
AEROPORTI DI ROMA TOGETHER WITH AUTOGRILL, LAGARDÈRE AND VENCHI PRESENTS THE NEW EIGHT F&B POINTS IN AREA A AT FIUMICINO’S TERMINAL 1
Fiumicino, 5 July 2023 – Rome’s Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport, which a few days ago was awarded the best airport in Europe for the fifth time in six years by ACI Europe, today inaugurates the new Food & Beverage area at Terminal 1 in Area A: another piece of the Terminal reconfiguration project inaugurated last April.
Eight new formats, presented today in partnership with Autogrill, Lagardère Travel Retail Italia and Venchi, which are developed over an area measuring approximately 2,000 square metres and which supplement the range already available under the Eataly brand, which has been in operation for just over one year. This additional range is mainly focused on table service, with concepts that enhance the Italian and international food and wine heritage.
A wide range of possibilities and different atmospheres today for guests and customers of the new catering outlets, presented in an unprecedented itinerary made up of tastings, animations and DJ Sets: from the Alemagna pastry café to the Berlucchi Franciacorta Sparkling Bar, from the brewery with Doppio Malto kitchen, to the Farinella pizzeria, where performed the world champion acrobatic pizza maker Nicola Matarazzo, from illy caffè, with Giorgio Facchinetti’s cold brew air show, to the Sophia Loren casual dining restaurant, which involved the participation of chef Gennaro Esposito, to the Japanese-Brazilian Temakinho restaurant and Chocogelateria Venchi with Giovanni Battista Mantelli, the creative soul of the brand.
The large Area A, created to offer itself as a meeting and socialising place for passengers, where they can pleasantly pass their available time, thus becomes an area where also the best of Italian food and wine culture and more can be found, with approximately 4,000 m2 plus over 2,000 m2 dedicated to lounges. A total of 6,000 m2 designed for passenger hospitality: the surface of a football field, visible from the entire infrastructure and easily accessible from various entry points. Added to these initiatives are those related to shopping which, in recent months, have involved the opening of the largest Duty Free in the world of Lagardère Travel Retail Italia with over 3,000 m2, the shopping mall, with more than 20 retail outlets which will add, over the next 12 months, a further 4,000 m2 to expand the range of products.
“The catering range presented today primarily enhances the Italian food and wine heritage, with segmented solutions that are attentive to the needs emerging from the various specific diets. It also offers passengers 600 additional seats, 190 charging stations, power banks, 34 additional tills and over 1,500 references for all tastes. Thanks to the commitment and shared objectives of our partners Autogrill, Lagardère and Venchi, this area is now even more a place for meeting and socialising. All of the catering points have been created using environmentally-sustainable and plastic-free materials and furnishings, low-energy consumption systems, separate waste collection and strategies for the management of food surplus (zero waste policy)," said Marilena Blasi, Sales Manager, Aeroporti di Roma, during her speech. “Today, we celebrate another step in the project, which also includes the opening of an area dedicated to shopping which will make a further 4,000 m2 available to passengers, together with innovative services which allow them to receive purchases made directly at the boarding gate thanks to Ottobot, the robot resulting from the partnership with the Ottonomy start-up which has already travelled more than 150 km in the Fiumicino Terminals. Passengers can alternatively collect what they have purchased once back in Rome, with the Pick-up on Return service. The goal is to proceed on this path with passion and audacity, surprising our customers and guiding the
transformation taking place in the world of travel, so that every passenger perceives Leonardo da Vinci Airport, not as a simple transit area, but as a place to live".
The inauguration was attended by:
Luca D'Alba, General Manager of Autogrill Italia, who said: “We are pleased to have consolidated our historic collaboration with ADR with these new openings, with which we share a continuous commitment to innovation and enhancement of the excellence of our country. With the four new concepts recently inaugurated (Temakinho, Sofia Lauren Restaurant, Alemagna and Berlucchi Franciacorta Sparkling Bar) Autogrill aims to respond to the needs and different tastes of tourists in transit through Fiumicino airport, offering a taste of Italy's food and wine heritage and the best of Made in Italy hospitality, with special attention to sustainability".
The CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail Italia, Alberto Niero, stated, during his speech: “The partnership between Aeroporti di Roma and Lagardère Travel Retail Italia continues to consolidate, with the opening of 3 new catering outlets at Leonardo Da Vinci airport at Rome Fiumicino.
