LEONARDO DA VINCI BECOMES THE SECOND EU HUB FOR THE QUALITY OF SERVICES OFFERED TO PASSENGERS
New record in the Airports Council International ranking: overtaking Amsterdam, Paris and Madrid in the last quarter. Particularly positive performances by Fiumicino in welcoming services, security controls, Wi-Fi, e-Gates.

Fiumicino, 26th July 2016 - Passengers give an even greater seal of approval to the quality of services offered by Leonardo da Vinci airport that now occupies second place in the European Union. According to the survey carried out by ACI - Airports Council International, the international association that measures the quality perceived by passengers in over 250 airports around the world - in the second quarter of 2016, the perception of the quality of services of Leonardo da Vinci among the surveyed travellers is the highest ever recorded in the history of surveys at the airport. With a score of 4.07 (on a scale where 5 is the maximum score) the main Italian airport came in at second place among European hubs with over 40 million passengers, surpassing the performances of Amsterdam, Madrid and Paris-Charles de Gaulle and sitting just behind London and on a par with Munich.

The result means that Fiumicino improves on its previous record, obtained between January and March 2016, by two places. The significant increase in the performance rating of security controls, where staff politeness and the speed and accuracy of checks at gates are particularly appreciated, is a result of the substantial investment in technology and personnel made by ADR. Also going down well with travellers passing through Fiumicino airport is the free Wi-Fi service, which is used very frequently by foreign tourists and those travelling for business. Still on a digital note, the new e-Gates stations and the restyling of the areas dedicated to passport control have further raised the level of quality perceived of this essential service. Baggage reclaim has also improved, thanks to the recent optimisation of the number of handlers that operate at the airport. In terms of comfort, a significant positive impact has been made by infrastructure works such as the reopening of the Transit Gallery, which directly connects Schengen and non-Schengen gates.

 

"It is an important recognition, because it comes directly from the evaluations made by Italian and foreign passengers passing through the Leonardo da Vinci airport" said Atlantia MD Giovanni Castellucci "and it rewards the determined effort made during the past two years to improve the quality of services for travellers". "As a Group - he continued - in recent years we have invested in changing the airport and have greatly improved the management of ADR. We continue to work with this school of thought, convinced that the competitiveness of Fiumicino airport is crucial for the growth of Rome and the entire country" concluded Castellucci.
