ADR-CONI agreement for athletes' travel facilities
Fiumicino, 23 June 2022 - A cooperation agreement has been signed between Aeroporti di Roma and the Italian National Olympic Committee on facilitating airport travel for athletes involved in events and competitions.

With this partnership, all procedures will be speeded up with the aim of optimising airport processes and guaranteeing an excellent customer experience for athletes and their staff. CONI will inform ADR in advance of the nominative lists of the teams together with all the operational details of the flights in order to be able to organise this process appropriately, making speeding up the airport procedures. Events will also be planned and organised at the airport to promote the sporting events that the athletes will be taking part in or have already participated in, so as to raise awareness and enhance the sporting culture, even among transit passengers and operators who use the airport, making it an increasingly inclusive meeting place.

"Aeroporti di Roma, always sensitive to cultural and social issues," said Veronica Pamio, ADR Vice President of External Relations and Sustainability, "has enthusiastically decided to stand side by side with CONI to promote sports initiatives and events at Fiumicino and Ciampino airports. This partnership represents an important step on the path of enhancing culture and sport, as well as a further confirmation of ADR's commitment to combine excellence and social sustainability, and to ensure that Fiumicino's role as a gateway to Rome and the country is increasingly future-proof".

CONI Secretary General Carlo Mornati commented “I would like to thank ADR for the attention and sensitivity shown towards our world. In fact, this protocol allows all airport procedures to be streamlined and speeded up, enabling CONI to put its athletes and officials, departing for the various international competitions, in the best possible conditions from the moment they enter the airport. This agreement also helps to spread a healthy sports culture through the experiences of our champions, in what is increasingly becoming a meeting place and the most important gateway to our country. This is a unique advertisement, by our standard bearers, of Italy around the world".

Fiumicino airport excels in the quality of passenger services, technological innovation and infrastructure functionality. For several years, in fact, 'Leonardo da Vinci' has been among the best airports in the western world, always offering a service at the highest level in terms of quality, sustainability and operational excellence. Even during the pandemic, one of the most difficult and challenging periods for the air transport sector, travellers were able to appreciate the effort of Aeroporti di Roma in always guaranteeing a top level of service.

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities associated with and supplementary to airport management. Fiumicino has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express couriers and General Aviation activities. In 2019, ADR recorded, as an airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations worldwide that can be reached from Rome, thanks to the approximately 100 airlines operating in the two airports (In 2021, following the effects induced by Covid-19 on air transport, Fiumicino airport recorded just 11.7 million passengers, whilst Ciampino airport closed the year with 2.3 million passengers). In 2020 the Airports Council International Europe awarded Leonardo da Vinci the "Best Airport Award 2020". For the third consecutive year, Leonardo da Vinci confirmed its first place out of all European hubs with over 40 million passengers. The award is added to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2022, for the fifth consecutive year, awarded Leonardo da Vinci the "Airport Service Quality 2021" award as the most popular airport in Europe amongst the hubs with more than 40 million passengers. As a result of these achievements, in 2022 ACI included ADR in the "Director General's Roll of Excellence", a list made up of only 64 airports around the world (out of more than 18,000 airports worldwide), which have distinguished themselves for the very high levels of quality offered to their passengers. ADR's management expertise is also confirmed by the awards received in 2019 by Skytrax, the main international rating and assessment company in the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017. Major awards have also been received in the area of digital innovation, the main driver of ADR's strategy. During 2021, the “Digital Transformation Award”' was awarded to Fiumicino airport as part of the ACI Europe Best Airport Awards. Lastly, with reference to the measures implemented for health protection, the hubs have distinguished themselves by winning numerous awards: the “Airport Health Accreditation” for the 2020 and 2021, the “Airport Health Measures Audit” in 2020, which certified the Safeguard airports, the “Biosafety Trust Certification” by RINA in 2020, the result of a careful investigation on the containment measures adopted for all forms of possible contagion and the “Covid-19 Skytrax Airport Rating 2020” which awarded Leonardo da Vinci 5 stars globally based on the efficiency of the procedures and the results of the ATP tests.
