Fiumicino, 29 May 2025 - This beach is known for the many cleaning initiatives that the Cigno Verde association has carried out there for years and for the many clean-up days promoted by ADR as well. Since it is the one closest to Leonardo da Vinci airport, it is the visiting card of the airport town; hence ADR and Legambiente’s idea to work together to improve the environmental quality of the area, thanks to the active commitment of volunteers and staff of the airport management company.
‘Today has been an extraordinary day of commitment and shared responsibility. At Aeroporti di Roma, we firmly believe that sustainability does not end with infrastructural measures, but is also built through practical gestures for our community and direct participation’ – commented Veronica Pamio, Senior Vice President External Affairs, Sustainability & Destination Management of Aeroporti di Roma. ‘As it is so close to the airport, the Coccia di Morto beach acts as an important symbol: taking care of it is both a duty and an opportunity for us to reaffirm our bond with this area hosting us. I would like to thank Legambiente for its valuable cooperation and all the ADR volunteers who made this initiative possible’.
‘Thanks to the commitment and exquisite efforts of ADR's volunteers, who symbolically adopt the beach closest to the airport, an unparalleled episode of practical voluntary work has taken place today in one of the most delicate coastlines of the entire peninsula – added Roberto Scacchi, President of Legambiente Lazio. ‘On the eve of the bathing season, a little of the beauty of Coccia di Morto, a fragile but also splendid portion of beach in the Litorale Romano State Reserve, is thus restored. A heartfelt thank you is due to ADR, as well as to all volunteers who have applied elbow grease and given their best to collect small and large rubbish, the very one that is still a huge problem on this part of the coast, precisely because of the water flowing from the Tiber’.
In the morning, a grand total of 1,010 kg of rubbish was collected by the volunteers, equipped with cut-resistant gloves and tongs: 160 kg of bulky waste, 486 kg of unsorted waste, 101 kg of glass and 263 kg of plastic and aluminium. The waste collected was sorted and transported to authorised recovery and disposal plants, organised by the waste management company of the City of Fiumicino.
