Fiumicino, 26 february 2018 – Despite the heavy snowfall during the night, the FCO airport flight infrastructures are operational. The snow removal plan is active and underway with crews and vehicles working through the night to clear runways, block-off areas and taxiways under the coordination of the Snow Committee (made up of Enac, Enav, ADR and representatives from the airlines). 

There are currently some delays for departures and arrivals at Fiumicino and Ciampino with progressive improvements expected throughout the morning. ADR staff is keeping passengers updated in the terminals. However, we recommend contacting your airline for updates on your flight times.
Aircraft de-icing operations to remove accumulated snow and prevent ice from forming are proceeding frequently and constantly. 

Since yesterday evening, ADR has been using special equipment such as ploughs with built-in brushes, de-icing liquid spreaders and turbines to ensure the use of the airport infrastructures. Clean up is involving both the landside area (area outside the airport perimeter) and the airside area (internal customs area that includes runways, taxiways and aircraft block-off areas).

In the first case, removal operations include the use of salt and mechanical means on road and pedestrian ways. In the second case, operations include other aircraft de-icing materials (100,000 litres of aircraft de-icing liquid) and snow removal vehicles (80,000 litres of pavement de-icing liquid) that Fiumicino has. 

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities related and complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates through three passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express couriers and for General Aviation activities. In 2017, ADR recorded, as an airport system, 46,9 million passengers with over 230 destinations worldwide that can be reached from Rome, thanks to around 100 airlines operating at the two airports.
