FIUMICINO: THE AIRPORT BECOMES A THEATRE WITH OPERA CONCERTS
27 members of the Youth Orchestra of the Opera House enchanted international travellers with songs from the most famous and appreciated operas

Fiumicino, 5 July 2018 – Board area E for non-Schengen international flights and gate B, dedicated to domestic and European flights at Fiumicino airport this morning hosted two opera music performances organised at Leonardo da Vinci by ADR, in partnership with the Rome Opera House. The talented young members of the Youth Theatre Orchestra - musician from all over Italy – performed, on this occasion, directed by maestro Roberto De Maio, instrumental pages from the major operas: the introduction from Verdi’s Rigoletto, the ouverture from Don Giovanni by Mozart and the second symphony from Rossini’s Barber of Seville.

In the two boarding areas, 27 seats were set up where, to the amazement of the passengers present, violins, double basses, timpani and plates played in an improvised opera house between the boarding gates and outside of the usual halls of the Opera, considered, in many countries of the world, an emblem of Italianness. This event is part of the programme of initiatives implemented by Aeroporti di Roma to improve the quality of time spent at the airport. On feature, that of promoting cultural initiatives planned in the city, which also influenced the choice of Fiumicino as Best Airport 2018 within the most important category recognition organised by the Airport Council International.

Aeroporti di Roma, Company of the Atlantia Group, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and undertakes other activities relating to and supplementing airport management. Fiumicino operates through four passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure clients on national, international and intercontinental routes. According to Skytrax official certification, in 2017 Fiumicino was the world’s number one airport for improvements and developments to its services. This acknowledgement adds to the award assigned by Airport Council International as the most appreciated airport in Europe by passengers and to the “Best Airport Award” 2018 allocated to the Rome airport during the annual assembly of Airport Council International.
