The 'Giovan Battista Pastine' Ciampino Airport, managed and developed by Aeroporti di Roma, a Mundys Group company, has for the first time been awarded the Skytrax 4-Star rating, one of the most important recognitions worldwide for the quality of airport services and staff performance. Following the 5-Star rating achieved in 2022 and reconfirmed in April 2025 by Rome Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino - which surpassed 4 million passengers in 2025, up 3.3% compared to the previous year - has further strengthened its international standing, joining the élite group of European 4-star rated airports in the 2-5 million passenger category.
Skytrax, the leading global air transport rating organisation, carries out assessments based on more than 800 parameters related to the products and services provided to passengers, according to a standardised methodology that allows comparisons between large hubs and regional airports. Following a detailed audit analysis conducted during 2025, Skytrax rewarded G.B. Pastine Airport for its high-quality standards across the entire travel experience in terms of terminal comfort, cleanliness, signage and wayfinding, the quality of service provided by staff, as well as security procedures and border/immigration controls. Skytrax also valued the availability of charging points and work areas, family services and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), along with some initiatives that make waiting more pleasant and engaging, such as table football, musical instruments and children's play areas.
“The 4-star Skytrax recognition awarded to Ciampino Airport,” said Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, “represents a further important milestone in the continuous improvement journey we are pursuing across the entire Roman airport system. G.B. Pastine plays a strategic role for Rome and for Italy, and has established itself among the most highly regarded airports in Europe in its category for quality and operational reliability. This achievement enhances the airport’s specific role within a dual-use operating environment, which requires the highest standards of efficiency, punctuality and reliability. The Skytrax certification recognises the value of teamwork and our ability to turn a long-term industrial vision into measurable results, with passenger experience and operational excellence firmly at the core”.
In recent years, Aeroporti di Roma has undertaken a development programme for Ciampino Airport aimed at improving its infrastructure and overall offering, in line with the sustainable and innovative development growth promoted by Rome’s airport system, which has recently achieved a historic record by closing the year with over 55 million passengers arriving or departing. Within this framework, the terminal upgrade plan will continue throughout 2026: following the projects already completed, additional improvements are scheduled in the coming months, to further enhance and harmonize the passenger experience across all airport areas.
