Fiumicino, 10 April 2025 – Skytrax just reconfirmed the 5-Star rating – the highest airport recognition in the world – to Fiumicino airport, which already received the prestigious recognition by the independent air transport rating organisation in December 2022. Furthermore, the Roman airport (managed by Aeroporti di Roma, part of Mundys Group), has entered the Best Airports in the World’s Top Ten for the first time, ranking 8th – thus climbing four positions compared to the previous year and consolidating its role as a reference hub for the entire Mediterranean area.
The awards were announced yesterday at the “Passenger Terminal Expo 2025” event in Madrid, attended by a delegation from Aeroporti di Roma, including: Chief Aviation Officer Ivan Bassato, Chief Commercial Officer Marilena Blasi and Senior Vice President for Transformation & Technology Emanuele Calà.
The high standards and quality of airport services, operational efficiency and the comfort offered to travellers were the elements that – following an in-depth audit by Skytrax, held between 19 and 21 March – allowed Fiumicino to be confirmed as one of the 12 5-star hubs in the world, alongside international airports such as Singapore, Doha and Tokyo. In the audit, 800 performance indicators were carefully examined in more than 30 different areas, from infrastructural modernization to the digitalization of passengers’ travel experience, to the improvement of security checks and the strengthening of the commercial offer.
“As Skytrax’s 5-star rating is confirmed and a new recognition is awarded to Fiumicino Airport - which has risen to 8th place in the world’s airports ranking - we once again demonstrate our constant commitment to providing our passengers with service excellence, focusing on quality, innovation and sustainability," Marco Troncone, Aeroporti di Roma’s CEO, stated. "Our goal is to further develop Leonardo Da Vinci airport to strengthening Rome's role in the global air transport system, while contributing to protect and consolidate Italy's competitiveness internationally."
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax: "Rome Fiumicino airport, which has greatly progressed in recent years, hugely deserves this award. From the standards of its infrastructure to the reliability of the travel experience it offers, the airport continues to impress travellers and strengthen its leading position in its region. We are therefore delighted to award the highest 5-star airport rating in recognition of this success.”
