Hangzhou, ancient silk capital, is about 100 km from Shanghai, to which it is connected via high speed train. Marco Polo described it as “the most beautiful and elegant city in the world”, filled with beautiful sights like the famous XiHu lake, surrounded by pagodas and willows, which has inspired artists and writers with its centuries-old beauty. Hangzhou has always attracted tourists from all over the world thanks to its proximity to Shanghai and Suzhou, the latter twinned with Venice. However, Hangzhou is not just an important tourist destination, but it is also a nerve centre for major companies in the textiles sector, thanks to the ancient silk trade tradition and its central position in the “golden triangle” between Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. In fact, in this area of China, there are particularly intense trade exchanges with the ‘Made in Italy’ world.
