Press Release Aeroporti di Roma S.p.A.
The Board of Directors approved the consolidated financial statements for 2019 for the Aeroporti di Roma Group, which closed the year with a net income of €245.2 million.

Fiumicino 09 March 2020 - The Board of Directors approved the consolidated financial statements for 2019 for the Aeroporti di Roma Group, which closed the year with a net income of €245.2 million.

Net financial debt decreased by €42.3 million to €1,125.9 million after investments of €255.1 million, up €73.1 million from 2018.

In 2019, the number of passengers passing through Fiumicino and Ciampino airports reached almost 50 million, up 1.2% on the previous year, thus setting a new absolute traffic record in the history of the Roman airport system.

This growth objective was achieved by maintaining the quality of services at levels of excellence, as certified by the Airports Council International (ACI), which confirmed Fiumicino airport for the third consecutive year as the best European airport in terms of service quality (ASQ-Airport Service Quality Award) among those handling over 40 million passengers. In particular, in the fourth quarter of 2019, Fiumicino airport was the best western airport (Europe+America) among those with more than 25 million passengers, with a rating of 4.55 out of 5.00. Aviation revenues grew by 1.0% largely due to the contribution of international traffic, which rose both to traditional destinations, such as North America, and to new geographical areas with high growth potential. A total of 30 new routes were opened in 2019, 12 of which to new international destinations that were previously not connected. The driving force behind the development of the international market was confirmed, with the market growing by over 900 thousand passengers compared to 2018 and driven mainly by the non-Schengen component, which increased by 4%.

Thanks to this progress, non-Schengen destinations have become, for the first time, the primary market in terms of traffic volumes, surpassing both Domestic and Schengen markets.

Investment efforts continued with an amount, in 2019, of over €255 million. Notably, the construction of the new "East" terminal system, which will be open to passengers from 2020, is at an advanced stage of implementation. The new infrastructure will extend the current Terminal 1, dedicated to Schengen flights, and add a new pier with 30 boarding gates, 13 of which will be served by loading bridges. With this addition the total area will become approximately 70 thousand square meters, with 18 thousand of which to be used for commercial areas. Both structures are designed and built to obtain certification according to "Leed Gold" energy efficiency standards, in line with the company's close attention to sustainability.

As far as the 2020 outlook is concerned, the effects on traffic in the first two months of the year caused by the current health emergency (in February passenger traffic -11%) are still difficult to fully assess on a prospective basis, as they are strictly dependent on the duration of the epidemiological effects that cannot yet be predicted.

The company is providing maximum cooperation to all competent authorities in order to ensure the application of the prevention and control measures that are deemed necessary to guarantee that the spread of the virus is contained, and thus facilitate a desirable rapid return to normality.

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group Company, manages and develops the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports in Rome and carried out other activities related and complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates through two passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure clients on national, international and intercontinental routers. Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, by express couriers and for General Aviation operations. In 2019, ADR recorded, as airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations around the world accessible from Rome, thanks to the approx. 100 airlines operating at the two airports. In 2019 the Airports Council International Europe awarded Leonardo da Vinci with the “Best Airport 2018”. For the second year in a row, Fiumicino has been confirmed as the top-ranked of 20 European airports with over 25 million passengers for its quality of service, technological innovation, and the efficiency of its infrastructure. This adds to the “Airport Service Quality” award granted to the Leonardo da Vinci airport in 2019, for the second year in a row, by the Airports Council International World as the most appreciated airport in Europe amongst hubs with more than 40 million passengers. ADR’s management skills have also been confirmed during 2019 by the awards received from Skytrax, the main international society for the rating and evaluation of the airport sector, which verified that Fiumicino achieved 4 Skytrax stars in 2017.
