Fiumicino, 22 October 2018 – The concert season at the Leonardo da Vinci Airport continued this morning as the airport hosted two performances of lyric music, as part of a partnership between Aeroporti di Roma and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Boarding area E, for non-Schengen international flights, and area B, dedicated to national and European flights, welcomed the young artists of Fabbrica, who performed for passengers departing on travel, in the first Young Artist Programme that offers a way for emerging Italian and foreign talents trained at conservatories and academies to join the world of public entertainment.
In today’s performance, the musicians – a soprano (Rafaela Albuquerque), a mezzo-soprano (Sara Rocchi), a tenor (Domenico Pellicola), a baritone (Andrii Ganchuk) and a pianist (Susanna Piermartiri) – interpreted excerpts from operas by Puccini, Verdi and Bizet, ranging from the Valzer di Musetta to La donna è mobile, from arias from Carmen to the quartet from Rigoletto, just to mention a few. Many passengers listened enthusiastically to the two performances, which lasted about 20 minutes each, and captured the unusual performance in photographs and videos.
This event was one of the many initiatives that the Aeroporti di Roma company launched to improve the quality of the time spent at the airport, which is an international showcase where previews of major shows are held as part of the programme in the capital city.
Aeroporti di Roma, a company of the Atlantia Group, manages and develops Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports and engages in other activities related and complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates in three passenger terminals. It is devoted to a business and leisure clientele on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is primarily used by low-cost airlines and express-couriers and for general aviation activities. In 2017, the ADR airport system recorded 46.9 million passengers travelling to more than 230 destinations reachable from Rome, thanks to the roughly 100 airline companies operating in the two venues. In 2017, according to the official Skytrax certification, Fiumicino was the airport that boasted the best improvements and developments to its services in the world. This recognition is added to the award bestowed by Airport Council International as the favourite passenger airport in Europe and the 2018 ‘Best Airport Award’ given to the Rome airstrip during Airport Council International’s annual meeting.
