CORONAVIRUS: PRIME MINISTER MARIO DRAGHI VISITS THE VACCINATION CENTRE OF THE LAZIO REGION AT FIUMICINO AIRPORT
Troncone: “Since the start of the pandemic, we have continued to ensure maximum support for the institutions in dealing with the emergency. Since the centre opened on 11 February, almost 30,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered.”

The President of the Council, Mario Draghi, has visited the vaccination centre of the Lazio Region, the first of its kind in an Italian airport thanks to the collaboration of Aeroporti di Roma and the Italian Red Cross.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, the Special Commissioner for the Covid emergency, Francesco Figliuolo and the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio, was received by the President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, the President of the CRI, Francesco Rocca and the CEO of ADR, Marco Troncone. Also present were the Lazio Region Health Councillor, Alessio D'Amato, and the Health Director of the Spallanzani Institute, Francesco Vaia.

The facility, the largest in the Lazio region with about 1,500 square metres entirely covered and heated, is able to administer more than 3,000 doses of vaccine daily and has been set up using part of more than 22,000 square metres of surface area made available by Aeroporti di Roma at the "Leonardo da Vinci" long-stay car park, where there has been a Covid-19 testing area up and running since last September.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Marco Troncone, CEO of ADR, “we continue to provide the utmost support to the institutions, deploying everything possible to deal with the Covid-19 emergency with determination.  The construction of this vaccine centre, which is part of the rapid and molecular testing facility that has been in place since last summer and which makes this area quite the health hub, testifies to our concrete contribution to the spread of the vaccination campaign, which remains the focus of this fight. Since the centre opened on 11 February, almost 30,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered.”

As for the rapid testing centre, at the "Arrivals" area of Fiumicino Terminal 3, and subsequently for the start of the largest "drive-in" for rapid and molecular tests in the Lazio region, the vaccination facility was also built thanks to the profitable collaboration with the Lazio Region, USMAF (Air and Maritime Health Office), the Spallanzani Institute and the Italian Red Cross, and confirms how Aeroporti di Roma, since the beginning of the pandemic, continues to guarantee the maximum possible support to the Institutions and the territory. ADR, in fact, in addition to providing the location, carried out the design, the internal and external installations, the floor covering and the relative road network, the external bathrooms, the vaccination stalls and the sound system.

The Fiumicino vaccination centre has 65 booths, including 25 for the inoculation of vaccines, 160 seats in the medical observation area, and a car park with around 330 spaces. The facility is also equipped with toilets and a restaurant service is available. The new area dedicated to the administration of vaccines is easily accessible from the Rome-Fiumicino motorway thanks to dedicated road signs and is open seven days a week. The highly insulated area is also equipped with an innovative decontamination and temperature measurement tunnel.

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and carries out other business activities relating to airport management. Fiumicino has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express-couriers and General Aviation activities. In 2019 ADR recorded, as an airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations worldwide reachable from Rome, thanks to approximately 100 airlines operating at the two airports (In 2020, following the effects caused by Covid-19 on air transport, Fiumicino airport recorded just 9.8 million passengers while Ciampino airport ended the year with 1.6 million passengers). In 2020, Airports Council International Europe awarded Fiumicino’s Leonardo da Vinci airport with the “Best Airport Award 2020”. For the third year running, Leonardo da Vinci airport confirmed its position as the number one European hub with over 40 million passengers. The award adds to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2020, presented Leonardo da Vinci airport with the “Airport Service Quality 2019” award for the third consecutive year as Europe’s most appreciated airport among hubs with more than 40 million passengers. ADR’s management capacity is also confirmed by the awards received during 2019 from Skytrax, the leading international rating and assessment company for the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017.
