25 NOVEMBER: AEROPORTI DI ROMA AND TEATRO DELL’OPERA TOGETHER AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
An original choreographic performance at Rome Fiumicino Airport to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Fiumicino, 25 November 2025 - On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Aeroporti di Roma, a Mundys Group company, renews its commitment to promoting a culture based on respect, listening and combating gender inequality by hosting a special choreography at Rome Fiumicino Airport, created in collaboration with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

The performance - titled ‘Voglio essere l’ultima’ (I want to be the last one) - took place this morning at the ‘Piazza’ of Terminal 1 Departures, in the presence of the Director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Ballet School, Eleonora Abbagnato, for the benefit of hundreds of departing and arriving passengers and airport staff. Eight young dancers from the School performed an intense and meaningful choreography, created by Giovanni Castelli and inspired by the famous verses of Peruvian activist Cristina Torres Cáceres, which have become a symbol of denunciation and resistance. Enhancing and amplifying the emotional and symbolic power of the movement was the unreleased piece ‘Butterfly’, composed for the occasion by musician Irene Bello (aka Eneri).

The initiative is part of Aeroporti di Roma’s participation in the United Nations UNiTE 2025 – Orange the World campaign, promoted globally by UN Women to raise awareness of digital gender-based violence. Throughout the campaign, from 25 November until 10 December, Human Rights Day, ADR will illuminate some of its symbolic locations in orange – the colour representing a future without violence – including the fountain outside Terminal 3 at Rome Fiumicino Airport and the façade of the G.B. Pastine di Ciampino Airport.

‘Promoting a culture grounded in respect, equality, and the appreciation of diversity and each individual’s uniqueness is a daily commitment for Aeroporti di Roma that we cultivate both inside and outside our airports. This is the message that today’s performance - made possible thanks to the invaluable collaboration with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma - aimed to convey to passengers and  all airport personnel” said Veronica Pamio, Senior Vice President External Affairs, Sustainability & Destination Management at Aeroporti di Roma. ‘At the same time, by lighting up several symbolic areas of the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports as part of the United Nations UNiTE 2025 – Orange the World campaign, we sought to combine art and light to inspire reflection and raise awareness on issues of profound importance for our community and the territories in which we operate, such as gender-based digital violence. These initiatives express the sense of responsibility with which we interpret our role and our commitment to concretely contributing to the creation of environments that are increasingly safe, inclusive, and respectful of the dignity of every person.’

Through body language, the students from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma represented the breaking of silence and the power of female solidarity, transforming Italy’s main airport into a place of shared and participatory reflection. Initially alone in a relentless race, the dancers then found themselves united in a collective movement: a choreographed cry of resistance and rebirth. The Director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Ballet School, Eleonora Abbagnato, commented: ‘With this performance, we wanted to transform a place of transit into a space of awareness, bringing dance to where it can reach everyone. Our students embodied a message that combines civic engagement and emotion: no woman should ever feel alone. Culture, when shared collectively, becomes a powerful tool to recognise, denounce, and overcome all forms of violence.’

Promoting gender equality and equity lies at the heart of Aeroporti di Roma's sustainability policies, which include a structured programme in the area of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. This commitment has been officially recognised with the Gender Equality Certification (UNI PdR 125:2022), obtained at the end of 2023 and renewed in 2025, and internationally acknowledged with the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Award presented on 19 November in Berlin during the International Airport Summit. Among its most significant projects is the collaboration with the DONNEXSTRADA association, which in 2024 led to the launch of the first Punto Viola in an Italian airport, at Fiumicino, extended this year also to Ciampino, and to which women in difficulty may turn for initial support. These concrete actions confirm the company's active role in fostering a culture based on equality, prevention and respect, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Thanks to this vision, Fiumicino Airport has been recognized by ACI World as Europe’s Best Airport for Service Quality in the “over 40 million passengers” category for eight consecutive years. In 2025, Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino was also confirmed by ACI Europe as Best European Airport for the seventh time in the past eight years.
