Fiumicino, 20 June 2025 - The continuous strive for operational excellence, the commitment to the green transition (with the inauguration of the largest self-consumption photovoltaic system in a European airport, last January), the data-driven management of airport processes, and consolidated relations with institutional stakeholders are the motivations cited by the jury that once again this year chose Rome Fiumicino Airport, (managed by ADR, part of Mundys Group) – which was also recently ranked by Skytrax as 8th in the Top 10 best airports in the world. The new European record further strengthens Leonardo da Vinci Airport’s leadership as the best hub for the service quality offered to passengers — a title awarded last March, and continuously since 2017 – by ACI World, based on passengers’ satisfaction levels recorded through the “Airport Service Quality” survey program, conducted in over 350 airports worldwide. In the first five months of the year, Fiumicino Airport recorded a new passenger traffic increase of 7% compared to the same period in 2024, testifying to the enduring attractiveness of the Italian capital.
“With this year’s award, we consolidate a European primacy, which for us means continuing to maintain those levels of excellence that position us globally, as well,” said Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma. “First, it is essential to thank all our people - members of a team that has almost doubled in size in the last twelve years - who, with their competence and dedication, are the true secret behind this victory. A heartfelt thanks also goes to Enac, to Enav, to the police bodies, to the entire airport community, and to our passengers.”
“We are seeing strong growth in traffic towards our country, which makes the future look promising,” continues Troncone, “but at the same time, it highlights growing challenges to maintain the levels of capacity and quality needed to fully and promptly seize this opportunity. For this reason, we are ready to launch the new 9 billion euro airport development plan, a great stimulus for the competitiveness and economic growth of our country, to continue playing leading role in the sector at the European and global levels.”
During the General Assembly, ACI Europe also decided to reward 'the exceptional resilience' of Ukrainian airports, in recognition of the grit and tenacity with which they have dealt with the past three years. Despite the closure of their country's airspace, they have worked tirelessly to preserve their existing infrastructure, maintain their operational capacity and look after their staff. With the total loss of operating revenues and the damage caused by the war, ACI Europe has therefore chosen to recognise the efforts of these airports with a 'Special Award' that demonstrates the support of the European airport community for their counterparts in Ukraine.
Aeroporti di Roma
Aeroporti di Roma, a Mundys Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities associated with and supplementary to airport management. Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino is one of the two hubs in Europe, and twelve in the world, with a Skytrax rating of 5 stars for excellent standards in the quality of service and the best airport in the world for airport safety. It has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; G.B. Pastine in Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express couriers and General Aviation activities. Over the years ADR has worked assiduously to build the airport of the future, a sustainable and innovative infrastructure that combines operational efficiency with customer care and a strategy to enhance the Italian cultural and artistic heritage in all its forms. Thanks also to this vision, Fiumicino Airport has been named by ACI World as the Best Airport in Europe for Service Quality in the category of over 40 million passengers for eight consecutive years. In 2025, moreover, Leonardo da Vinci Airport was once again confirmed by ACI Europe as the “Best European Airport” — for the seventh time in the past eight years.
