ADR: RECORD TRAFFIC IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2019 FOR THE “LEONARDO DA VINCI” AIRPORT
With 9 million passengers, the capital city’s airport registers 4.3% growth, the highest since 2015. Strong push by international (+5.4%) and non-EU (6.2%) traffic.. For the long Easter weekend, 2.2 million travellers are expected. Favourite destinations of the Romans include the major European cities and the cities of art

2019 is off to an extremely promising start for the Rome-Fiumicino airport. Confirming the positive trend of 2018 (ending with 43 million passengers), the first quarter of the new year registered almost 9 million passengers, with a record growth of 4.3%, (the highest recorded since 2015).

A driving factor behind the development of Leonardo da Vinci is the international traffic (+5.4%) pushed by the non-European market that shows a 6.2% increase and the European component (+5.0%).

Forecasts for departures during the upcoming holidays are also excellent. The estimate is for more than 2.2 million passengers arriving at and departing from the Roman airport during the long weekends over Easter and the Italian national holidays on 25 April and 1 May. In particular, between 18 and 23 April, more than 750 passengers are expected, whereas between 24 April and 5 May, about 1.5 million passengers will transit through the airport.

The most popular destinations for spending the Easter holidays are the cities of art and the major European capitals. Connections for Spain, the United Kingdom and Austria are rather popular, but also long-range destinations, thanks to the new connections launched recently from Fiumicino, including the new routes for North America and the important Far East development with China, India and the Maldives at the top of the list.

Traffic development, with the arrival of new airlines and the launch of numerous connections from and to Rome, confirms the centrality of Leonardo da Vinci in the global air transportation network and also highlights Aeroporti di Roma’s commitment to providing quality service for passengers and airlines.

For the second year in a row, Fiumicino has confirmed its status as the most popular large airport among passengers in Europe and the western world for the quality of the services it provides.
