ADR, THE 'LEONARDO DA VINCI' CONFIRMED BEST AIRPORT IN EUROPE
Fiumicino Airport awarded with the Aci Europe Best Airport Award 2022 for the fourth time in the last five years

Fiumicino, 24 June 2022 - New important international recognition for Aeroporti di Roma. "Airport Council International" (ACI), the institutional association that independently surveys passenger satisfaction at the world's major airports, has awarded Fiumicino airport the Aci Europe Best Airport Award 2022, in the category of hubs with over 40 million passengers. This is the 4th time in the last 5 years that ADR has been ranked first among European airports, following the evaluation of a jury of experts from the European travel industry. This comes on top of "Leonardo da Vinci's" recognition as the European leader for five consecutive years in terms of service quality as expressed directly by passengers.

The ACI Europe Best Airport Awards 2022 jury was composed of authoritative representatives from the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, SESAR Joint Undertaking, International Transport Forum and ECAC. The judges assessed not only how airports have reacted to the crisis, but also how they are innovating by focusing on the airport sector's sustainability goals of decarbonisation. What made the Leonardo da Vinci's victory possible was Aeroporti di Roma's excellent track record in technological innovation, with its strategy oriented towards an ever more avant-garde future, capitalising on digitalisation and open innovation to offer passengers even more safety and comfort during their journey. In this context, the creation of the Innovation hub at the airport, dedicated to start-ups and the development of urban air mobility services, stands out, with the launch of the first vertical take-off electric aircraft connections between the airport and Rome as early as 2024.

In terms of sustainability, particular praise was given to Fiumicino's goal to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2030, twenty years ahead of what has been set at European airport sector level, in intermodality with the development of integrated train+airplane products, and in the dissemination of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), the biofuel able to reduce CO2 emissions by 60-90%.

"We are proud of this new record," said Aeroporti di Roma CEO Marco Troncone, "which is the result of the daily passionate commitment of our staff and all our partners. We are working on building the airport of the future with greater use of technology, maximum efficiency in the relationship with the environment, further infrastructural and operational reliability and resilience, maximum security and lots of comfort and value-added services for our passengers. This is demonstrated by the new boarding area, which opened just over a month ago, which will play a crucial role in ensuring that Rome and Italy can reaffirm their centrality on the international scene”

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities associated with and supplementary to airport management. Fiumicino has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express couriers and General Aviation activities. In 2019, ADR recorded, as an airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations worldwide that can be reached from Rome, thanks to the approximately 100 airlines operating in the two airports (In 2021, following the effects induced by Covid-19 on air transport, Fiumicino airport recorded just 11.7 million passengers, whilst Ciampino airport closed the year with 2.3 million passengers). In 2020 the Airports Council International Europe awarded Leonardo da Vinci the "Best Airport Award 2020". For the third consecutive year, Leonardo da Vinci confirmed its first place out of all European hubs with over 40 million passengers. The award is added to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2022, for the fifth consecutive year, awarded Leonardo da Vinci the "Airport Service Quality 2021" award as the most popular airport in Europe amongst the hubs with more than 40 million passengers. As a result of these achievements, in 2022 ACI included ADR in the "Director General's Roll of Excellence", a list made up of only 64 airports around the world (out of more than 18,000 airports worldwide), which have distinguished themselves for the very high levels of quality offered to their passengers. ADR's management expertise is also confirmed by the awards received in 2019 by Skytrax, the main international rating and assessment company in the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017. Major awards have also been received in the area of digital innovation, the main driver of ADR's strategy. During 2021, the “Digital Transformation Award”' was awarded to Fiumicino airport as part of the ACI Europe Best Airport Awards. Lastly, with reference to the measures implemented for health protection, the hubs have distinguished themselves by winning numerous awards: the “Airport Health Accreditation” for the 2020 and 2021, the “Airport Health Measures Audit” in 2020, which certified the Safeguard airports, the “Biosafety Trust Certification” by RINA in 2020, the result of a careful investigation on the containment measures adopted for all forms of possible contagion and the “Covid-19 Skytrax Airport Rating 2020” which awarded Leonardo da Vinci 5 stars globally based on the efficiency of the procedures and the results of the ATP tests.
