ADR: LEONARDO DA VINCI “TRANSIT GALLERY” REOPENS
Fiumicino airport reaches a historical record in the quality of services perceived by customers, according to ACI international survey

Fiumicino, 29 April 2016 This morning at 5:00 am saw the reopening of the 240-metre-long link gallery for transits between the Schengen and Extra Schengen areas within Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino. The “Transit Gallery”, which has been closed following a fire last May, will be used daily by around 20,000 passengers in transit at Fiumicino airport, who will thus further reduce their boarding times. Twelve new e-gates have been placed in this area for the electronic inspection of European passports with chip, adding to the existing 24 stations for the manual control of documents.
By the end of the year, the “Transit Gallery” will become the access point for the new “Departure Area E”, which will host all departing passengers and passengers in transit towards Extra Schengen destinations, offering them the best Made in Italy products within the biggest “airport mall” ever to be built in Italy.

Also in regard to the quality of services, in the most recent quarterly surveys (January-March 2016) conducted by Airports Council International - the international association that monitors passenger satisfaction in 250 airports around the world - Leonardo da Vinci registered the highest overall customer satisfaction index it ever achieved. This result places Fiumicino's airport amongst the leading European hubs in terms of services provided, with particularly positive performances with respect to the cleanliness of the terminals, the courtesy of the airport staff and to the waiting time at passport control.

The reopening of the Transit Gallery and the historical record reached in the international ACI survey regarding service quality confirms the effectiveness of our work to revive the Leonardo da Vinci airport, which we want to bring in the shortest amount of time possible to the standards of efficiency, quality and comfort of the best airports at an international level. We are very confident that the ongoing acceleration in the investments for the new terminal and the new commercial area, which we will complete by the end of the year, and the “obsessive” work to improve the experience of passengers in our airport can contribute in a determining way to Rome's and Italy’s competitivenesscommented the Atlantia’s Managing Director Giovanni Castellucci, during a visit to the Transit Gallery, together with ENAC President Vito Riggio and to the Managing Director of ADR Ugo de Carolis.
 

With the reopening of the Transit Gallery, the airport today has returned to its full normal state of operation.
