Fiumicino, 23rd September 2016 - Fiumicino increasingly a family-friendly airport, thanks to the initiative, result of the collaboration between Aeroporti di Roma and Maker Faire Rome which involved the young travellers of Leonardo da Vinci. Throughout the week, until 24th September, the B boarding area of Terminal 1 hosts three desks dedicated to robotics, programming of video games and digital craftsmanship technologies.
Today the area of "Airport lab" welcomed the children of the Comprehensive School Giovan Battista Grassi of Fiumicino who have experienced the three interactive desks, venturing to solve many adventurous missions in the company of a robot, in addition to learning the basics for the construction of a prototype. The video games desk has allowed them to discover all the secrets of the programming of video games and Apps. Available also, the part of "making", thanks to the dedicated stand, where the young students from Fiumicino have learned to combine sensors, actuators and microchips to each other, giving free rein to the imagination, with practical experiments.
To escort them in this "virtual trip" in the future, the so-called makers, technologists, inventors, engineers, craftsmen 4.0 who with an innovative approach, create products to bring our society to a more simple and enjoyable future. No coincidence that their motto is "do it yourself" but mostly "let's do it together". Present in over 100 countries, they share information and knowledge both through the web and real physical spaces, the so-called Fab Lab.
"Airport lab" is the latest initiative launched by Aeroporti di Roma to the cultural entertainment of the passengers at the airport, on the occasion of Europe's largest innovation event - scheduled from 14th to 16th October at the Fiera di Roma, with Maker Faire Rome - The European Edition 4.0.
Aeroporti di Roma, part of the Atlantia Group, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and performs other activities related and complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates through four passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure customers for domestic, international and intercontinental flights; Ciampino is mainly used by low cost airlines, express couriers and for General Aviation activities. In 2015 ADR (Aeroporti di Roma) recorded, as an airport system, more than 46 million passengers with 240 destinations worldwide reachable from Rome thanks to about 100 airlines operating from the two airports.
