ADR: CELEBRATING 40 MILLION PASSENGERS AT FIUMICINO IN 2015

Fiumicino, 28 December 2015 – Today we celebrated the 40 millionth traveller to pass through the Leonardo da Vinci airport this year. The passenger was welcomed with a toast at the gate for the evening flight to Beijing - operated by Air China - by Marco Gobbi, Route Manager in ADR's Aviation Marketing Development and by representatives of the Chinese airline company.

The national airline of the People's Republic of China, the first airline company to connect Italy to China - in 1986 - will celebrate their 30th anniversary on the Italian market in 2016. The airline is, in fact, the only Chinese company - and one of the few companies in the world - to connect all continents.

In terms of traffic, the Fiumicino airport has grown +5% compared to 2014 and in 2015 50 new flights were inaugurated, including 12 long-distance flights, for a total of 20 new destinations reached directly from the Roman airport.

Leonardo da Vinci is the first airport in the world to be accredited as a "Welcome Chinese Airport". This certification proves that the airport complies with the hospitality criteria established by the China Tourism Academy. Finally, there are currently 30 flights every week connecting Fiumicino to Greater China: 6 airlines operating towards 7 Chinese destinations, in addition to Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Leonardo da Vinci Airport therefore confirms its place as the top airport in Europe, alongside Charles De Gaulle in Paris, in terms of the number of connected Chinese cities and the only airport in the European Union hosting all the major Chinese airline companies. This record ensures direct accessibility from Rome to all the main Chinese cities, and confirms Fiumicino's leadership in this market segment, as well as the the attraction of Rome and its airport for passengers from the Far East.

Aeroporti di Roma, a company belonging to the Atlantia Group, manages and develops the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports in Rome, and carries out other activities linked with or complementary to airport management. Fiumicino operates through four passenger terminals. It is dedicated to business and leisure clientèle on national, international and intercontinental routes. Ciampino is used mainly by low-cost airline companies and express couriers and for General Aviation activities. In 2014 ADR - as an airport system - recorded about 44 million passengers, with more than 230 destinations reached around the world from Rome, thanks to more than 100 airline companies operating from the two airports.
