ADR-SPALLANZANI AGREEMENT
CORONAVIRUS: ADR-Spallanzani agreement signed to carry out antigen or molecular tests directly at the airport.

Fiumicino, 1 April 2021 – New strategic partnership between Aeroporti di Roma and the Spallanzani Institute in the fight against Covid-19. An agreement has been signed which provides that, as of 6 April 2021, passengers on Covid-Tested flights and anyone who wishes to do so, can undergo an antigen or molecular test at the airport at specially low rates, replacing the facilities managed by the National Health Service and without further burdening the general community.

The protocol signed today provides that, at the Covid Test area in Terminal T3, which has been active since 16 August 2020, all departing and arriving passengers can undergo a simple and rapid swab, whilst for travellers arriving on Covid-Tested flights, a dedicated area has been set up near the landing areas, again coordinated by Spallanzani medical staff. For passengers from the United Kingdom, who are required to undergo a second test at the airport before reaching their self-isolation required by law, the swab will be free of charge. With this initiative, Aeroporti di Roma and the most prestigious Italian Institute for Infectious Diseases offer an additional opportunity even to passengers who are not required to undergo a test, but who still want to check their health.

The swab service at the airport provides a low-cost and one of the lowest on the market, amounting to €20 for antigen tests, obtaining the test result within just around half an hour. It will also be possible to undergo a molecular test at a cost of €69.88. In the latter case, the result of the swab will arrive directly by email or text message within 36 hours. Payments for tests can be made at the airport by credit card, debit card or directly from a smartphone, using contactless payment applications. To access the service just make the online reservation at the following address: https://www.adr.it/digital-health-pass which will be operational at 10:00 on 6 April.

This agreement with the Spallanzani Institute, the most accredited research centre in the country for infectious diseases with which we have collaborated in a very productive way since the beginning of the pandemic”, said Ivan BassatoDirector of Operations at, Aeroporti di Roma “confirms our constant commitment to use everything possible, in the name of innovation and depth of action, to face the Covid-19 emergency with determination. It is another option that we offer our passengers to manage the infection control activities quickly and easily. As an airport management company, we continue to take all measures to provide the highest standards in terms of health, safety and comfort within a very short period of time”.

We have always” said Francesco Vaia, Director of the Spallanzani Institute “expressed the need for joint action by civil society and institutions to combat SARS-Cov-2 in the best possible way. This collaboration, which has been very valuable and active from the early stages of the pandemic and which has already borne so must fruit, is now being strengthened and goes in the direction of a systemic response. Testing is one of the fundamental strategies to avoid the spread of infections and to reactivate one of the crucial sectors of our economy, starting with the most important airport in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. Covid Tested flights are yet another tool we equip ourselves with.

Vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, specific actions to avoid the economic depression of the country and of the citizens will give us the right drive to give us hope and courage and help us defeat the pandemic”.

Two main test areas are currently active at the Fiumicino terminals. The first, measuring approximately 1,000 m2, located at Terminal 3 Arrivals, consists of 24 cabins, 18 dedicated to healthcare activities and 6 to administrative acceptance with a high degree of automation thanks to the presence of tablets for filling in the forms necessary to carry out the swabs. A second test area measuring 1,200 m2 with 32 cabins (20 healthcare and 12 administrative) is available at the landing areas directly connected to the aircraft.

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages and develops the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino and carries out other activities associated with and supplementary to airport management. In 2020, Airports Council International Europe awarded Leonardo da Vinci the "Best Airport Award 2020". For the third consecutive year, Leonardo da Vinci confirmed its first place amongst European hubs with over 40 million passengers. The award adds to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2020, for the third consecutive year, awarded Leonardo da Vinci the “Airport Service Quality 2019” award as the most popular airport in Europe amongst the hubs with over 40 million passengers. ADR's management capacity is also confirmed by the awards received in 2019 from Skytrax, the main international rating and assessment company in the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017.
