Aeroporti di Roma has inaugurated “Pedalaria,” the new cycle path connecting the “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport to the city of Fiumicino. This new infrastructure is part of the “DPCM Jubilee 2025” initiatives and was entirely financed by ADR with an investment of 1.8 million euros.

Spanning 3.5 kilometers, the new pedestrian and cyclist path starts from Rome’s main airport and integrates with the existing cycle route along Viale del Lago di Traiano in the airport district. This project was made possibile through a fruitful collaboration between ADR and the Municipality of Fiumicino, led by Mayor Mario Baccini. “Pedalaria” offers passengers, airport workers, and local residents the chance to experience a unique journey through natural beauty and archaeological areas, including the historic Ports of Claudius and Trajan.

As part of ADR’s broader sustainability agenda, “Pedalaria” embodies a green footprint ensured by several factors, as the use of permeable materials like “Idrodrain” and recyclable wood mixtures, chosen to minimize environmental impact; drainage channels and “Rain gardens” for water management; and the installation of Mediterranean plants sourced from five continents along the final stretch of the path toward Terminal 3, managed in full respect of their life cycle.

This cycle-pedestrian path marks another step forward in ADR’s strategy, as a Mundys Group company, to positively impact the local community and environment. This is a crucial element of the airport’s sustainable development plan, which outlines €9 billion in private investments.

The inauguration ceremony of “Pedalaria,” held near the Santa Maria degli Angeli Parish roundabout in Fiumicino, was attended by distinguish figures, the Extraordinary Commissioner for Rome Jubilee 2025 Roberto Gualtieri, Fiumicino Mayor Mario Baccini, ADR CEO Marco Troncone, ADR President Vincenzo Nunziata, ENAC Chairman Pierluigi Di Palma, ADR Chief Infrastructure Officer Andrea Giordano, and the Parish Priest of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Don Giovanni Soccorsi, who blessed the infrastructure.

With the realization of ‘Pedalaria,’ we strengthen our commitment to fostering sustainable, accessible and functional mobility for thousands of passengers and citizens, as well as the many workers living near the airport” stated Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma. “The new infrastructure is highlights our dedication to invest in the sustainable development of our 5-Star airport, ensuring tangible beneftis for the environment, the people who use our airport, and the surrounding territory”.

"Today we celebrate an important achievement for our city and for the whole community," added the Mayor of Fiumicino Mario Baccini. “The project demonstrates how collaboration between local businesses and institutions can create infrastructure that combines quality, innovation and attention to the common good. The Pedalaria cycle path is more than just a pathway - it represents a step forward towards sustainable mobility and a modern eco-friendly future. My thanks go to ADR for believing in and supporting this project".

For the Extraordinary Commissioner for the Jubilee 2025 and Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, “Pedalaria” is “a beautiful, spectacular, and truly extraordinary work. Connecting the city of Fiumicino to the airport, it traverses a marvelous route, passing near extraordinary sites such as the Imperial Ports of Claudius and Trajan. It is a high-quality project, built with premium materials, serving both a tourist function and as a means of sustainable mobility for passengers and the many workers who will be able to commute conveniently, safely, and sustainably to this large ‘city,’ which hosts 50,000 workers every day, many of whom come from Fiumicino. Enabling bicycle transportation is very important from an environmental perspective. We are very pleased and thank ADR, who carried it out with its designers and workers, the Municipality of Fiumicino and Mayor Baccini, and the entire Jubilee Metropolitan City Commission structure.”
