Bramante has always combined in his work as an artist the three things he loves most – art, photography and travel – and for this main Italian airport he has chosen to exhibit a selection of his most significant works on the Eternal City and some of its most iconic sights.
‘Fiumicino Airport is a unique place that in recent years has taken the leading role in a visionary path: hosting and promoting Italy's artistic and cultural heritage,’ said Davide Bramante. ‘With this exhibition, I wanted to propose an alternative approach to art Just as an archaeologist digs for signs of the past, I dig through the layers of the present to bring out the hidden beauty.’
The exhibition is displayed in the boarding areas A in Terminal 1 and the Satellite in Terminal 3. Terminal 1 displays a selection of large photographic works dedicated to Rome – created from 2004 to the present day – that offer a powerful and contemporary interpretation of the city. In Terminal 3, there are seven photographic installations resembling light floating curtains, suspended about three metres from the ceiling, which stimulate interaction and participation among viewers. The works on Rome are accompanied to great effect by the face of another metropolis that Bramante loves: New York, a constant reference in his travels and poetry. There are also four more photographs on two other walls of the Terminal. The works – whose presentation today was attended by the Councillor for Tourism, Sport, Culture, Jubilee, Labour and Professional Training of the Municipality of Fiumicino Federica Poggio and the Councillor for Productive Activities of the Municipality of Fiumicino Raffaello Biselli – play on different overlapping layers of views of the cities of the world that the artist has photographed and therefore got to know, experienced and explored. On these layers, you can always spy the most iconic sights of Caput Mundi. A continuous flow of toing and froing, like a continuous departure from and return to Rome to and from the rest of the world.
'Today we welcome to our airport an impressive photographic exhibition full of meaning for Rome and its airport. It is a place that is projected towards the future in terms of quality, sustainability and innovation, but that does not forget its historical and cultural roots and cares deeply for its heritage, also helping to promote the artists of our time, such as Davide Bramante, whose value is recognised throughout Italy and abroad,’ said Veronica Pamio, Senior Vice President External Affairs, Sustainability & Destination Management for Aeroporti di Roma.
With this unusual photographic exhibition, Aeroporti di Roma once again confirms its desire to make time spent in the airport a true cultural experience, with original and high-level artistic proposals to promote Italian talent in the world.
