Airport Development Plan

The Sustainable Development Plan for Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport stems from the determination to anticipate the future of mobility – focusing on people, the local area and sustainability. It is a path of integrated growth that combines infrastructural innovation, quality of experience and environmental responsibility. The airport is envisioned not only as a gateway to Italy, but also as a driver of shared value.

The Sustainable Development Plan aims at strengthening Leonardo da Vinci airport’s role as a strategic hub on the international scene, with a total investment - of which €4 billion for the maintenance and upgrading of existing infrastructure, and €5 billion for new constructions- entirely self-financed by Aeroporti di Roma. The project involves the construction of an new terminal with a capacity of an additional 35 million passengers per year – featuring two piers and a total of 76 new gates – and a new infrastructural layout that includes shortening the current Runway 1 and building a fourth runway to the east, farther from residential areas. This masterplan is essential to meet the steadily growing traffic predicted for the coming years, and it ensures operational efficiency, high-quality passenger services and global connectivity for the country.
