Services for families

If you are travelling with children, Ciampino Airport offers a range of family-friendly services: pushchairs, nurseries, play areas and family toilets.

 Strollers

Departing Passengers

If you are travelling with a pushchair, you may take it with you and hand it over to the handler when you board the plane. Before going to the boarding gate, check with your airline whether you need to tag it at check-in or if you can tag it directly before boarding. If you have checked in your pushchair at check-in, you can use one of the pushchairs provided free of charge by Aeroporti di Roma; you can find them immediately after security checks.

Arriving passengers

Unless otherwise notified by the crew, your pushchair will be returned to you at the designated collection point located next to baggage claim Belt 4.

You can use one of the pushchairs provided free of charge by Aeroporti di Roma to get to the pushchair collection point: you will find these near the terminal access ramp.
Once you have finished using it, you can leave it in the baggage reclaim area, in the designated trolley racks.

How to go through security checks

If you are departing and travelling with children or are expecting a baby, please speak to the security staff, who will direct you to the designated priority lane.
Below you will find some information on the essential items you can bring with you during your journey, as well as some tips on how to go through security checks:

  • Remember to take baby food items out of your bag: bottles, milk, fruit juices, water and other drinks, jars/tubs of bought or homemade baby food. Place the individual containers in the tray so that the security officer can complete the checks more easily and quickly.
  • Baby products in liquid, cream, gel and paste form, such as drinks, purées and syrups, may be taken on board the aircraft after being checked, even if the passenger is not travelling with a child.

What to do with the pushchair?

Remove all accessories, such as: rain covers, toys, nappy bags; place everything in the tray and then on the conveyor belt. Your child may either walk or be carried through security. We need to check the pushchair, so please fold it up and ask the security officer for help in placing it in the X-ray machine.

Little Traveller Certificate

Aeroporti di Roma offers the chance to obtain the ‘Little Traveller Certificate’, which commemorates the experience of a first flight from Ciampino.
It is our gift to children and all parents who wish to make their children’s first flight an unforgettable experience.
Ask for the certificate at the airport at the ADR Info Point located in the departure area, before security checks.

Nursery

For people travelling with babies, there is a dedicated nursery area with a changing table and a breastfeeding chair, located after security checks.

Play areas

Ciampino Airport offers a new service for families with young children. Three baby corners, equipped with children's toys and games, have been set up by ADR in various locations:

  • Outside the terminal, next to the main entrance;
  • Inside the terminal, in the check-in area.
  • Inside the terminal, in the arrivals area, next to baggage claim Belt 1.

Family toilets

At Ciampino Airport, in addition to nurseries, there are also family toilets. These are special toilets for parents travelling with children equipped with all the necessary amenities. In addition, to ensure a comfortable airport experience for all ages, there are baby changing tables and children’s sinks in the airport toilets.

Services for young children

High chairs are available at the airport restaurants. If they are not on display, please ask the staff.

Other useful tips:

  • During take-off and landing, you can help your child adjust to changes in air pressure by giving them a dummy or a bottle

  • If your child has a cold, you can use nasal drops to help them adjust to pressure changes, which should be administered half an hour before take-off and half an hour after landing

  • Pack a snack for the journey

  • Dress your child in layers to cope with the difference in temperature between the departure point, on board the aircraft (air conditioning) and the destination

  • Your child’s feet may swell slightly due to the high altitude; we recommend that you take off their shoes whilst on board.
