ADR: Fiumicino is once again awarded as Best European Airport for Quality of Service in 2020
For the fourth time, Fiumicino airport has won the Airports Council International award among European airports with more than 40 million passengers a year.

Fiumicino, 1 March 2021 - For the fourth year running, “Leonardo da Vinci” receives the award as Europe's most popular airport among passengers. This was announced by ACI (Airports Council International) - the international association that independently measures perceived quality in over 350 airports worldwide through interviewing travellers - which awarded Fiumicino airport the "Airport Service Quality Award" for 2020.
The recognition comes in one of the most difficult and challenging years for the air transport sector. In particular, travellers at “Leonardo da Vinci” appreciated the effort Rome Airports made to guarantee a quality service even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Roman hub achieves this award with a score of 4.47 on an annual basis compared to a maximum of 5. Specifically, the cleanliness of the terminals, the clarity of information to the public, the courtesy of the staff, the waiting time at the security checkpoints and the facilities at the airport are among the services most appreciated by passengers at “Leonardo da Vinci”.

“The result achieved”, said the CEO of ADR, Marco Troncone, “once again confirms the superior service levels offered to Leonardo da Vinci passengers and fits perfectly into our strategy focused on excellence in Quality and Safety, as well as Sustainability and Innovation. This recognition adds to all the others obtained recently and makes Fiumicino airport one of the most recognised airports in the world in the fight against Covid-19. Despite the gravity of the situation, ADR continues firmly on its quality path and responds to the challenges of the epidemiological crisis with responsibility and vitality, as witnessed by the role played on the vaccination front and the launch of the new travel protocols on international Covid Tested flights, a safe and innovative system to support the recovery of air traffic, which is strategic for the country”.

Aeroporti di Roma, an Atlantia Group company, manages Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and carries out other business activities relating to airport management. Fiumicino has two passenger terminals and is dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes; Ciampino is mainly used by low-cost airlines, express-couriers and General Aviation activities. In 2019 ADR recorded, as an airport system, 49.4 million passengers with over 240 destinations worldwide reachable from Rome, thanks to approximately 100 airlines operating at the two airports (In 2020, following the effects caused by Covid-19 on air transport, Fiumicino airport recorded just 9.8 million passengers while Ciampino airport ended the year with 1.6 million passengers). In 2020, Airports Council International Europe awarded Fiumicino’s Leonardo da Vinci airport with the “Best Airport Award 2020”. For the third year running, Leonardo da Vinci airport confirmed its position as the number one European hub with over 40 million passengers. The award adds to the recognition of Airports Council International World which, in 2020, presented Leonardo da Vinci airport with the “Airport Service Quality 2019” award for the third consecutive year as Europe’s most appreciated airport among hubs with more than 40 million passengers. ADR’s management capacity is also confirmed by the awards received during 2019 from Skytrax, the leading international rating and assessment company for the airport sector, which confirmed the 4 Skytrax stars obtained by Fiumicino in 2017.
