Between 1958 and 1965, during the construction of "Leonardo da Vinci" Airport, within the ancient Port of Claudius the remains five of ships came to light, which are now displayed in the Museo delle Navi.

Constructed in the 1970s, near the discovery site, the museum was inaugurated in 1979; next to the ships it is possible to view other objects related to life on board and to the different types of transported materials (marble, containers for foodstuffs, etc.).
