Ten tips for a smooth trip
ADR provides to travellers 10 useful tips to better manage the departure.


1)Which is the hand baggage size allowed?^

Size of hand baggage, accurately checked as hold baggage, must not exceed 115 cm in total. Larger baggage is labelled at check-in desks and loaded into the hold of the aircraft.

2)Security rules: which liquids are allowed to becarried on board?^

The European regulations in force as of 6 November 2006 limit,but do not prohibit, carriage of liquids by hand baggage (perfumes, creams, shave foam,cosmetic products, toothpaste, etc.)

The rules provided for by the community regulation in this matter cannot be derogated, consequently security staff is bound to strictly apply them.
Passengers are recommended to arrive at the airport with their re-sealable plastic bags , in order to prevent any delay or problem. If any passenger does not have the plastic bag required, a little stock is available at check-in desks of airlines or at ADR info desks . Passengers can buy liquids after security controls without any kind of prohibition.

3)Are passengers allowed to travel without documents to Schengen Countries?^

No they are not. At check-in passengers are requested to show their valid identity documents , that shall be exhibited for any necessary check, together with boarding card, also at security controls and at gates. Passengers are reminded to verify, before their trip , that their idenity documents are valid and suitable for their destination. To get more information:

4)How long before departure must passengers arrive at the airport?^

Passengers are recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2.30 hours before departure , especially for the required to go through security, so to enable air carriers to perform check-in operations.

For flights to destinations subject to special controls (United States, United Kingdom, Israel, St. Petersburg and Moscow) passengers are requested to
follow the instructions of the reference airline.

5) Who is in charge of baggage claim at the airport?^

Further to the deregulation of airport ground handling services , baggage claim services are provided exclusively by ground handlers and not by airport operating companies. The handlers providing ground handling services on behalf of airlines are:

  • Alitalia Airport
  • Aviapartner
  • Eas
  • Flightcare Italia

Lost Baggage
In case of lost baggage , passengers are requested to go immediately to lost and found desks of the responsible ground handling company displayed on a screen beside baggage claim conveyors. For more information:

6)How to streamline baggage claim?^

In order to prevent your baggage from being confused with any other baggage with like size, forms and colours, it is advisible to make it recognisable by means of details: labels, tapes, pins, coloured straps, etc. in order to quickly identify it at arrival and to facilitate its finding in case of loss. Passengers are recommended to include in their suitcases a business card or a photocopy of their identity document , to make them more recognisable in case of any wrong delivery or lack of external label. 7)How to behave at security controls?^

In order to save time, it is opportune to get prepared before the security gate and to look at the images scrolling on the screen, while removing all that might require a more thorough check of passenger and their baggage, if anything irregular is detected. Passengers are requested to place in the appropriate containers available at security gates:
- jackets, coats, metal objects, watches, wallets, purses, mobile phones, keys, belts, bucks, etc. Electric/electronic devices are submitted to separate x-ray screening. Passengers are reminded that they are not allowed to wear or carry in their hand baggage any item that may be an improper weapon (metal files, scissors, golf clubs, etc); inflammable, poisonous, toxic and infective substances. 8)How and where to get information at the airport?^

ADR provides passengers with all operations through various channels:

  • monitor : located in the terminals, they display all information regarding flights, boarding gates, as well as any special event and/or anomalous situation (strikes, etc.);
  • info desks: at Terminal 3 and 5 departure area, Terminal 1 and 3 arrival area;
  • leaflets: services chart, flight time schedule;
  • totem touch screen : they allow to interact with operators, in order to have special information through direct videocalls;
  • paging;

  • monitor : located in the three terminals, they display all information regarding flights, boarding gates, as well as any special event and/or anomalous situation (strikes, etc.);

The other information channels not managed by ADR are: Call center and website of air carriers, handling companies, Enac.


9)Which utilities are available at the airport?^

The airport has all utilities required ti improve passenger's stay at the airport:

  • automated banking/bank/foreign exchange;
  • post offices;
  • baggage deposit;
  • laundry;
  • bars, restaurants, fast food, baker's shops, etc.;
  • elevators, lifts, conveyors, air conditioning;
  • Communications:
  • Wi-fi network, managed by an external provider, active in the entire airport;
  • public phones;
  • Internet stations
  • Special utilities:
  • available facilitated pathways and disabled passenger's multimedia totems;
  • equipped nurseries;
  • 3 smoker's areas, one in each terminal;
  • First-aid room;
  • 2 chemist's shops, available in the departure area before security, in Terminals 1 and 3.
  • Wide range of retail activities available in all terminals.

10)How to read the boarding card?^

The boarding pass, delivered at check-in desk, must be shown at security control and at the boarding gate; it's necessary to keep it safe until the arrival to destination.
