The current online version of the ADR website has been designed to improve usability and easy access to its web pages, and to guarantee access to the information to all types of users.
These web pages comply with the guidelines issued by CNIPA (National Centre for Information Technology in Public Administration), pursuant to the Stanca Act (Act no. 4, dated 9/1/2004), which lists “Provisions to facilitate access for disabled passengers to IT instruments”.
Regulations and standards are as follows:
- CNIPA guidelines
- W3C accessibility guidelines (WAI Project)
Accessibility studies include a technical aspect connected with implementation methods (development code), as well as a perception and intelligibility aspect. The assessment of these different aspects allows grading the level of accessibility of a website (based on the WAI W3C guidelines)
WITH REFERENCE TO THE DEVELOPMENT CODE AND TO IMPLEMENTATION METHODS
- The web pages use the HTML 4.01 STRICT language.
- Inaccessible frames, java or flash objects are not included.
- CSS sheets were used to check content presentation.
- The layout is “liquid”, i.e., it adapts to the browser window space available and to screen resolution.
- The size of the characters can be adjusted.
- Contents can be accessed also excluding the use of colour.
- The colours were designed to guarantee a good contrasting effect between the background and foreground colours.
- Data charts are simplified and nesting-free.
- A text alternative is supplied for the non-textual objects contained in the web page.
- Links to the main website sections and to other websites are tagged to identify the destination.
- Navigation aids have been added (blocks of links).
