How to reach it

The Oasis of Palo Laziale is under the City of Ladispoli (RM).

At the Km 36 of the s.s. 1 (national road 1) Aurelia, exit for Ladispoli and Palo; follow therefore the indications for the WWF’s Oasis .

By train, get off at the railway station of Ladispoli.

Environment

The Oasis, which extends for 120 hectares, keeps one of the last pieces of Palo Laziale’ s Tyrrhenian forest in the Northern area of Rome, and includes a hygrophile wood with pools and ponds;
Mediterranean bushes, lawns and fields abandoned and of which the wood is being re-colonized.

The area, where there is also a Park with exotic vegetable species, is managed by WWF Italia on the basis of an agreement with its owners, the family Odescalchi.

Flora and fauna

The Mediterranean bush is very thick and it is made up of: lentisk, leaf threes, myrtle, arboreal heather, alathernus, leccius.

And the wood is populated by turkey oaks, little english oaks, ash trees, laurels and elms. There are also many wild orchids beside those cultivated in the botanic garden.

The Badger is the symbol of the Oasis: it lives together with porcupines, stone martens, weasels, foxes, and polecats.

In the pools, the palustrine turtles (Emys orbicularis) swim, while in the brush and in the wood there are various exemplars of terrestrial turtles.

The avifauna is really present: many passerines of the wood and of the brush; on the shore sea birds fly and rest such as the sula.
