OSTIA ANTICA’ S VILLAGE In front of the entry of the ruins, in the suburb of the Roman Ostia, you can find an area rich of archaeological and monumental witnesses, which from the classical period come to the modern age and where “Borgo” (the village) and the “Rocca” (the fort) are inserted.
The area, which up to 1557 was touched by the flow of the Tiber’s river, coincides with the suburb of Ostia Antica, and, during the Roman age it had a sepulchral destination.
Pieces of inscriptions and of sarcophagus can be seen indeed till now in the walls of the Renaissance buildings.
