It was the year 1994 when Rome hosted the World Aquatics Championship for the first time.
15 years later, Rome welcomes the 13th FINA World Championship for aquatic sports including swimming, water polo, diving, synchronized swimming and open water swimming, which will be held in Rome from 18 July to 2 August 2009.
ADR, the official sponsor of the event, will give its contribution to an international sporting event involving numerous protagonists: 2,500 athletes coming from 170 countries, 1,500 sports staff and delegates, 2,000 volunteers and 1,500 journalists. Approximately one billion television viewers worldwide are expected to watch the competitions.
The support given to this large-scale event shows ADR’s commitment to promoting the everlasting values of sport and culture.
The championship is also an opportunity to improve Rome’s aquatic sports infrastructure. Improvements include: the renovation of the Foro Italico complex, which will be equipped with more advanced technologies; the construction of the International Aquatic Centre in the futuristic City of Sport of Tor Vergata, while Lido di Ostia will host the open water swimming competitions.
The championship will not be solely restricted to sport competitions, but will extend to include events connected with art and shows on the theme of water and the aquatic world.
Across the entire duration of the Championship, information literature containing useful tips about airport services and utilities will be available at the Aeroporti di Roma stand located at the hospitality Village of Foro Italico.
