ADR, supported in the project coordination by Changi Airport International (Singapore) - that is considered the leading company in the industry for premium quality and service standards -, forecasts an annual traffc volume growth in Rome airport expected to reach 55 million passengers by 2010 and over 90 million passengers by 2044.
The project envisages an enlargement in the north side of the Leonardo da Vinci airport for further 1,300 hectares in addition to the current 1,600 hectares, and the creation of an adequate multimodal system of road and rail connections.
The development plan will positively impact not only on the Region but on the entire Country. For employment only, about 30,000 new jobs are expected to be created in the first phase and over 200,000 in the long term. An additional GDP will also be generated for at least 500 million euro in the first ten-year period.
ADR considers encouraging the statements made today by UNINDUSTRIA Aurelio Regina who identified, as indispensable factors to qualify the Lazio region in the European competition context, the works to be implemented on the infrastructure network: development of Fiumicino hub, by doubling the Leonardo da Vinci airport, and multimodal systems with High Speed connection.
It has been also firmly pointed out that such development works shall be started within the next two years, otherwise the opportunities that may be seized today, like the Olympic Games of 2020 and the Jubilee of 2025, may be lost. Also in the subsequent speeches of the Undersecretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Hon. Gianni Letta, and of the President of Confidustria, Dott.ssa Emma Marcegaglia, the need has been expressed for new large infrastructure works to enable Rome as Capital City of Italy to prove once again that it has a role to play in the world.
